The Spread of Social Media

Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are all examples of social media sites that are sweeping the nation. These apps are starting to bring in more and more young people, and generating more early adaptors. It seems as if more and more young students are using smart phones and tablets, allowing them to be apart of the social media world. We live in a time period that we have both early adaptors and laggers who want nothing to do with social media. The world is heavily saturated with using social media, though there are still some people who do not want to have their lives put online.

Social media has had a huge impact on the way we are able to communicate with people whom we are close with, and old friends that we have not seen since high school. Many use apps such as facebook even as a way to sell things they have in their homes that they do not want anymore. They have also made communication more instant. It take no more than 30 seconds to send a tweet out, about an event that has just happened. Within seconds of any tweet sent out of post made on facebook, all of your followers can be up to date on your life. People are able to use hash tags to reach a targeted audience, that goes beyond their followers. This is a great way for schools to reach potential students, and for businesses to announce promotions or deals going on in their stores. While its fantastic posts made can reach tons of people within minutes, it does have its negative sides to it. If positive content care be shared that quickly, so can negative. People can share private content about others quickly through social media, and theres not much anyone can do to stop it.

The spread of social media has brought back news to young students and teenagers. With streaming cites such as Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video, teenagers have fallen short of watching regular cable television. This means they are not getting as much exposure to daily news. When teenagers are on social media apps they are able to easily follow trending has tags or click on the "Whats Happening" feeds. Snapchat has had many updates allowing users can follow more and more news feeds and keep tabs on the latest gossip.

LinkIn, is a new social media that is sweeping the nation. Every student looking for a job should have a LinkIn account. Without a LinkIn page, you are almost invisible to the professional work world. This social media is how potential employers are able to look a candidate up, and see their resume, past experience, and what they have been up too lately. With young people constantly being on social media, I believe that LinkedIn has become a great way to show off your professional side, and differ it from your personal social medias.

The power of social media is strong, and people lagging to become apart of it will soon realize how necessary it is for our day to day lives. Its one of the fastest forms of communication, a great way to get our news, and a way to market ourselves and brands. In this day in age, people late to getting on social media are not going to be as connected to the world as many, both young and old, already are.
