The World Record Egg's Important Message
On January 4, 2019 an anonymous account posted an image of an egg with a white background asking to become the most like picture on Instagram. Somehow, this egg image took over instagram and has now over 50 million likes, beating out Kylie Jenner who's most liked picture has only 18 million likes. The @world_record_egg account has 10 million followers. This account has become so popular, its worth around $280,00 in US money.
A few days after the first initial post, the egg account posted another image of its-self, but this time with a crack in the top of its shell. This post made followers begin to question if the egg was going to reveal its identity of who was behind the account. The account had responded to many comments about who they were, but each time with a different answer. The egg account continued to post pictures with more and more cracks leading up to the Super Bowl. The final post was an almost completely broken egg, but had the stitchings of a football along the side. The caption on that post was "The wait is over. All will be revealed this Sunday following the Super Bowl." This post let followers know that answers behind this account were coming.
During the Super Bowl, and on Hulu the world_record_egg commercial played, sending a strong message about mental health. The egg explains that they have been cracking under the pressure of social media and feel so much better now that they have talked to someone about it. The commercial, which is linked below, tells the viewers that if they are also starting to "crack" or feel the pressure of social media they should talk to someone. The add ran first during the 2019 the Super Bowl, and now also is an advertisement on the streaming website, Hulu.
Since the release of the commercial, world_record_egg has had a lot of positive feed back. The idea behind using this incredibly popular egg account to reach so many people about mental health awareness was creative, and effective. Below, I have both links to an article about the story of the world_record_egg and the advertisement played during the super bowl.
